I decided not to get the stock navigation because $2,500 dollars was a bit extreme (and I don't really need upgraded speakers and REALLY didn't want the push button start because I think that's kind of odd for a manual transmission). I am shopping around for headunits to have installed aftermarket and can't make up my mind. I am basically down to Pioneer or Kenwood and am leaning towards Pioneer because that is what I have in my car now. I want the biggest screen I can possibly get but also want Apple Car Play. If anyone has opinions on whether I should go with a Pioneer NEX series or a Pioneer App Radio 4, I would really appreciate it. From what I understand, the main difference between the NEX series and the APP radio is that there is no CD/DVD receiver on the app radio and the navigation is not built in (I don't need either especially since the unit will have apple car play and I can use my phone's navigation). Any pictures of any aftermarket headunits installed in a 2015 WRX/STI would be greatly appreciated so I can see what they look like. Thank you!
I just bought a 2015 STI and was also considering getting an AppRadio 4. Anyone have any experience with these units? Or any other unit that's Apple CarPlay compatible?
I actually ended up purchasing the Pioneer 8000NEX that has apple car play built into it. I am still waiting on my car! It is supposed to be here today or tomorrow so hopefully the wait will be over soon! Good luck with your search for a headunit!
ah sweet - would you mind posting some interior photos of the 8000NEX after you have it installed? and mind sharing the list of parts/adapters you got in order to retain steering wheel control, usb, BT mic etc..? I just got a limited last week myself and I'm lovin this car..
Apple car play is available on ALL Pioneer NEX units. I chose the NEX 4000 on the advice of the VP of Sound Advice. I have all the features of the NEX 8000 except for it.s slightly better screen for half the price. Just make sure you have the proper cable to hook up your iPhone 6.
I contacted Metra Online and they came backing saying that I should use the 95-8905B Kit, 70-7552 harness, and ASWC-1 to retail steering wheel control.
Would you go with these or should I look into ae64.com ?
contact AE64 its a side business so it may take a day or two to get back but it cant hurt to ask. He also has some adapters if you want to maintain oem usb and aux ports (at least for 08-14)
the double din frame is nothing special so you can order that where ever you can find it. As for the harness Since it says its universal it will work for the subaru but may not have the steering wheel control wires so you may have to tap in so thats why I suggest AE64
