HELP water in the trunk

so when I got my car, there was idle water under my spare tire, I stripped my trunk, wet vac'd it, went in with papertowels, and then 409d (to get rid of any beginnings of mold)

then I went looking for the source, I found one of my tail lights gaskets was folded in.. and was soaked, so I fixed the gasket and thought I had solved the problem. (that was thursday morning)

thursday afternoon it rained

friday I had the car detailed (it was FREE!!!

)

I get my car back and go home, I open the trunk (plan is to build a costum spare tire sub box) and my spare tire well has water in it again. where is it coming from. I dont have a sun roof, so I know thats not the problem, back of the tail light is dry, so that problem is solved... any help would be great...

i have noticed the same problem with my 02 rex, it seems to only be on driver side of trunk...... i also installed new taillights and still water gets through...have you looked at the waterproof seal to your trunk? i checked mine and it looks like i slammed the trunk too hard and it is cut a little bit.... but my water problem is extremly bad like yours.....i have no idea how a little cut could let in gallons of water?????

Im thinking of drying my trunk, lining it with paper, and then going to the car wash, seeing where it gets wet (other than the puddle at the bottom) to find the source, but I wanted to skip this step if anyone knows common sources...

that's about the best way to source the problem.

are you wingless? if you have a wing check the mounting spots under the lid, or even from the 3rd brake light

I have a wing... stock spoiler, its not getting in through the mounting spots...

how would the third brake light have anything to do with this? its on the wing, Im kind of lost by that...

even though the light is in the spoiler, the wiring still goes through the trunk lid along the passenger side lid mount.

have you done the paper and carwash yet? that is the best way to find the general area without spending hours of pulling your hair out and getting frustrated.

My 05 trunk leaks too. Only on the drivers side. I would like to know the answer to this one. I cant put anything in my trunk...

I have not done the paper/carwash yet, because I cant get to a carwash with my work schedule this week. I think instead Im going to take the back seats out, and watch with a flash light as my uncle hoses down my car... either way it sucks, but whatever...

I'll keep you all informed...

my dad's 99 avalon has this same problem his spare tire would get all this water when it rained we are still trying to figure what is wrong

just bought an 02 and I kept smelling a mold type smell, nothing strong, just a faint odor. Come to find out, water was under the carpet in the trunk on the driver side. Anyone ever come up with a culprit for the leak?

First question, was the car ever involved in a rear end collision?

If you answer no and you fixed the taillamp seals, you have two choices.

1: Replace the trunk weatherstripping.
2: Buy some fish and a filter.

I just got a 03 wrx, three days later i smell mold so i pop my trunk and it was coming from there, i looked at the spare tire and there was water all over the bottom of it, any help where it would be coming from? where should i look first??
