Looking to get a new radar detector... What are you using (Speed Demon Syndrome)

    Hello all,

I have been enjoying my sweet WRX.

Since then i have been getting things for my new subie.
    1. Rally Armour mudflaps
    2. shifter knob by cobb
    3. now looking for a Radar detector.

I have been without a radar detector for a few years now. So i am so out of the loop on radar detectors.
I have been looking at the windshield mount radar detectors, and have been leaning towards the escort max, redline, or even 9500xi.

    My question(s)
What are you all using for radar detector and how do you have it mounted.
why did you go with (whatever brand) and how do you like it, in other words would you recommend it to a friend.

the reason i need one now...cough My WRX likes to speed. Seriously i look down and i am doing 80 without knowing. I know this will not be good in the near future.

    Thanks all,

i have a escort solo 2 wireless. I have it mounted in the center. Things i like about it...Wireless but i do have the option of plugging into a power supply if my batteries die, nice display, cheaper but still effective, good detecting distance. I bought mine from Ebay.

Don't forget 80% percent of the time your best radar detector is your own eyes. I have to admit the valentines are nice due to the arrows.

I travel the country for a living, have been doing so for 7 years. I have never used a radar detector and only been pulled over 2 times and only 1 was a ticket (4th biggest speed trap in the country at the time). I am also a believer in your eyes are your best. I drive roughly 22,000 miles in 7 months. I have heard great things about V1 though.

+1 to everyone saying situational awareness is key.

My valentine 1 is a tool. It can only help, not prevent tickets entirely. I dont need anything fancier. I just like having it on and working so I have a heads up if cops are near and where they are.

The biggest issue I have noticed with most running radar detectors their either don't have them on the right setting or they cheap out and get one that doesn't differentiate enough and every single time it goes off they slow way down, get quite annoying passing the same person 30 times in an hour... I set my cruise 7-9 mph over the speed limit and have no issues...

I have the Valentine 1 and an Escort Redline. Both are great pretty similar in performance. I perfer the V1 because it provides more information with displaying multiple alerts and the arrows are great. I like that I can mute K band at low levels around town so it stays quiet near automatic door openers

I have the escort smart radar, with bluetooth installed by best buy foe $29.99 in my 2014 WRX Limited Sedan. I highly recommend this product. I've had it for about 6 months and it works fantastic. It has bluetooth capabilities to control the radar with your phone and access the escort community/other features. Really, a great product.

I know this has nothing to do with your questions, but I just wanted to share:

I received the Cobb knob as well (blue) and I was really disappointed in the weight. It's extremely light... about half the weight of the stock one. If that's what you want, to each their own, but I couldn't use it. It made me shifts really sloppy.

I just got the perrin slim knob and I didn't realize how heavy the oem knob was!! I might exchange my slim knob for the fat knob if there is a major difference

I've heard the fat knob is still pretty light. I'm looking at the TWM m1 Abrams and/or a6, because I really like the round shape. It feels better in my hand lol. I think I might go with the a6 because it's heavier. Look around though, they seem to have the heaviest knobs I can find without having one custom made.
