I'm looking to install the Subaru Footwell Illumination Kit in red, but heard the LEDs are pretty dim. I was thinking of using the kit's harness but replacing the LEDs with my own. Does anyone know the technical specs on the LEDs the kit comes with (voltage range and current draw)?
The kit hooks up to the cubby light circuit, so the footwell lights come on when the car's headlights are on. Does anyone know the technical specs of the cubby light circuit? Such as the circuit's voltage level and current output?
Thanks for any help/insight

Agreed the lights are very dim. If you get a 12V LED strip and mount it under there it would work fine, LED's draw little to no current so should not really be to worried about that.
I just did this mod this past weekend.
They are dim, but i feel like it is good at night. Personally i think that any more red light would look a little cheesy IMO. It is subtle but definitely makes a difference compared to nothing.
I can post pics if you like.
Sure, thanks for the offer, I'd love to see some pics (and I'm sure future users who are searching this topic would appreciate it too). You wired it into the cubby light circuit right? What brightness do you typically keep your dash at when you're driving?
I ended up ordering these:
7 Color 2pc Expandable LEDGlow LED Interior Lights Lighting Starter Kit
per the suggestion of a user on another forum. I plan on installing a dimming switch in the circuit too, and maybe somehow mounting it somewhere in the center console area. That way I'll be able to dim the lights independent of the dash brightness, and switch the lights off if I want to. That's the idea at least haha, they should be coming in tonight, and I plan on starting the prototype wiring over the weekend.

I'd really love to see the LED kit in person at night.
My BMW had ambient lighting and I grew to really like it. So I'd like a little bit of lighting in the car, but I don't want to be driving around with a bright LED in the car.

Same here. I heard from a number of people that the red Subaru kit was very dim. I know that the LED strips I bought will be very bright, which is why I'm planning on wiring in a dimming switch so that I can adjust the brightness, or even turn them off if I want to. Maybe the same would work for you?

possibly....I would prefer them dim anyway, but I do like the idea of being able to turn them on or off.
