Passport 8500 X50 here. Going on 3 years old and still loving it. Saved me from a speed trap just this past weekend. Had a nice 1/2 mile warning around a curve before I saw the blacked out charger. When used with common sense, it's a handy device.

Window tint is going to hurt signal. As well as safety glass or your windshield. But when you look at a good remote system its $800- $2500 I have used one in the past. But I am not having problems now. So why make a change.
The radar works because of the bounce its doing.

Beltronics v955 hard wired to rearview, saves me everyonce in a while, but I usually don't drive like a maniac anyways.

Another extremely happy Valentine 1 owner here. I've had mine hardwired for about a month now and it has saved me multiple times. I owned an 8500i for a short time, then borrowed a friends V1 for a trip from Cleveland to Boulder, CO, and was sold immediately. Once you live with the arrows, it's hard to go back.

With my 8500 x50 I can quickly determine if the LEO is in front coming towards me, stationary, driving away, or behind me.. you just have to learn how to interpret the signal. I'm right about it 90% of the time.

To the people who claim that detectors only detect when it's too late, etc. isn't the point of the detector to pick up the cops using it, laser or radar, on someone ELSE up the road so you get a warning? The posts that claim once you hear the warning, you're toast, seem obvious. I don't know about you guys but my daily commute always has other vehicles ahead of and behind me on my highway stretch.

It depends on how the LEO are enforcing speed. If they are targeting individual cars (e.g., laser), then it's less likely your detector will give you warning, especially with fewer cars on the road. If they're sitting in the median with their radar running constantly, then you should get a heads-up.Originally Posted by Divinitus
Also, placement of the detector will determine the likelihood of getting warning. For radar, higher is better; for laser, lower is better.

as a former officer and also military man, I can tell you radar detectors are a false sense of security..think about it, if you can pick up their radar hitting you, then obviously their radar is HITTING YOU hence they can clock you, yes it tells you what is in the area and when and what is scanning you but it doesnt deny the fact that you are being scanned. You think officers would put thousands of dollars in mods to catch speeders if it could be beaten by a $300 escort? rofl
That V1 looks awesome!
So what you're saying is that when my detector picks up Ka band while I'm driving in heavy traffic, then I drive nearly a mile, over hills and around corners, to find a state trooper shooting radar off the side of the road that he already got me? That's just retarded. Even IF they could scan my car though the 100s of cars that are passing them in between, how would they even know what my car looks like if I'm a mile away on the other side of a hill?
You've obviously never used a quality detector.
