    03 WRX Short Shifter Qestion

Hey, so I'm doin a short shifter install on my 03 WRX. I've done everything up to actually taking out the stock shifter. The guides I looked at said I'd have to take out a snap ring but that was for newer models; I don't see a snap ring on mine and don't know how to get that ****er out. Anyone done this before????

I think I used mine as a lever to pop it out.. just apply force, it'll come out .

To install the new one I sat a piece of 2x4 on top of it and whacked it with a mallet. Went right in.

I ended up just disconnecting all of the shift linkage to the transmission.. I had to anyway, cause I'm replacing the clutch.
    Thanks for the replies!

    For future reference....\

Twist the shifter upside down (180 degrees), so that the top is pointing toward the front of the car instead of the rear......

Then pull down.... like you are putting it into 2nd gear..... it pops right out with very little effort.

To get the new one in....... is much more "trying".

    1) grease the ball
    2) protect the threads with a block of wood
    3) Use a BFH and beat the crap out of it.... it will go in.
