    Shift knob trouble

Ok so i want to change my knob from the STI titanium knob becuase i prefer the round knobs...it fits better in my hand but when I went to take it off, there was a white waxy looking piece with threads on top of shifter(with the knob off).....what the hell is that? Also what kind of performance knob should i get for under $50

Was it Teflon tape? ...sometimes that's used to prevent backthreading.

There's really no performance knob IMO, it's what feels best for you and is aesthetically to your liking.
