I'm putting the carbon fiber 3m tape on the gray trim of my 08, and wondered how to get the gray trim out of the steering wheel. Does it just pop off like the rest of the trim, or is the steering wheel going to have to come off? Took it kinda easy, didn't want to break the little pieces. Any info would be great. THX.

Wheel has to come off.
Disconnect battery, wait awhile, press brakes to make sure drained,
Remove torx bolts on side of column.
Pull the airbag out.
Loosen wheel nut.
Remove wheel (may be difficult to pull off).
Remove grey covers with phillips screws on back of wheel.
Reassemble & don't break the clock spring.
IMHO not worth it for tape.
Yep, I don't think taking it apart is going to be worth it. It was a shot in the dark, hoping I could get them off otherwise. Oh well, three-tone interior for me. THanks!

It's not too bad. There are minor flaws (user error) that are really hard to notice unless you are staring at it. I like it, it's different for the 08+...

Instead of the shift boot, I saved all my pennies and just bought the wife an '07 STI, so that should halt my 'mod bug' for a while...
