    AccessPort Mod day 1

So i got my AccessPort yesterday, and after flashing my 09' to the Perrin Stage I (which runs great...) I took it apart. I would like to have it in a good visible spot at all times, but the cellphone holder just doesn't cut it for me. I would like to some how get the screen in to a gage pod of somesort.

I did this tear down to get a good idea of how this thing is put together. The LCD screen can flip up at a 90 degree angle but there isn't much slack for anything else. The buttons are also pretty much stuck where they are at, so this isn't going to be easy.

    Challenges:

-Fitting it in to a gage pod.
    -Keeping it portable.
    -Keeping it looking clean.
-not breaking it (guess warranty is void now since i took it apart)

I update as I make progress, i'm sure no one really cares...

Subscribed. Can't wait to see what happens here. Good luck, man. You may single handedly revolutionize the AccessPort... or you could be out $700. Either way, it's interesting.

Just went to radioshack... or "The Shack" as they now call it. Picked up a few things just to tinker with and see what i can do. The main problem here is the screen all i can really do is flip it up...

Right now the only idea i have is making a custom box with two gage pods, one for buttons and another for the screen. The screen pod would be tilted at a 45 degree angle or so. But in all reality it's just a Accessport in a different box with a tilted screen... i dont like that.

My Dremal tool also just broke, and the Roto-zip is way to big for some of my cuts.

Here is my first experimental shell... i have an old pod from like 3 years ago and a $3 plastic box from The Shack. I tossed this together in about 20 mins. Like i said i don't like it... i guess it's not different enough.

Interesting idea. I went the cell phone holder route, but I'll defintely follow along to see where this goes.

If you want to move the buttons, you could desolder them and solder on longer leads. Just a thought.

The buttons are built in to the circuit board, so thats not an option.

I think i know what i am going to do, but it's going to take fiberglass. So i'm gona leave this alone till i'm off this weekend.

You can extract buttons from a circuit board and extend the leads if you really know what you're doing. I remember reading a thread where the guy installed the AP screen where the clock display usually is.. and the minute/hour buttons controlled the unit. (along with two extra buttons) Can't seem to find it at the moment....

I would love to have my access port screen up near the clock or better yet on my gauge bezel (if there is room)! Then have the controls on the center console..

That is freaking BRILLIANT. I wish I had the electronics knowledge to pull off something like that...

that is epic..it would be sweet if there was a cable like the ipod cable that allows you to control your ipod through your headunit for you AP..a nice navi screen with AP capabilities...is it possible to remove the screen itself and connect it to a bigger screen or monitor?
