    Sound system for 2008 impreza

I'm currently updating the sound system in my 08 Impreza. Full set of speakers w/ sub and amp. I've heard the batteries in the Subaru's can't handle the after market systems...is this a true statement? Someone mentioned I would need to purchase a new alternator.

    Any input would be great.

i've had 2 subs and an amp along with a new head unit since a week after i bought the car back in 2006. she's still going strong 31,000 miles later.

i've never heard that they would need a new alternator before

It really depends on how powerful the subs are going to be. It has nothing to do with the batteries not being able to handle it, it is all about the alternator. What size amps you planning to install? I have a 4ohm 200 watt RMS amp and I don't even notice it running, no dimming of lights either. I realize this is not particularly a very powerful amp compared to some, but it should give you an indication it could handle a lot more power, and probably only dim the lights.
