    Shifter questions

Has anyone upgraded their WRX shifter to a short-throw (available upgrade from Subaru)?

Is it difficult, or just some unbolting of frame/linkage, swap, repeat?

Also, on the 09 WRX, I notice that the shifter moves around as you drive, this annoys me, is there a fix for this, or is it a design issue? My Honda shifter does not do this, it feels completely isolated from the engine, but it has further to go. I am thinking on the subaru, since the engine/tranny sit in a more rear-drive style (not transverse), the shifter almost goes straight into the tranny???????

If you mean shifter bushings, I'm not sure that would help. It didn't feel loose or sloppy, its just that it walked around in my hand, felt like it was part of the engine and as the engine moved it followed.

Call TiC to find out if the 08 bushings work with 09 (I think they do)

I'm gonna take a guess that changing the bushings involves half-removing the shifter? That would probably be a good time to trade it out if I wanted to?

I saw a lot of preference info at NAStIOC. Looks like the kartboy shifter and bearings are quite popular. The Kartboy owner? comments on the boards.

BTW, driving with your hand resting on the shifter is bad for the tranny.

OK, well, with your hand no on it grabbing it to shift is like trying to catch chipmunk that's been eating coffee beans.

I have the Cobb SS, it's nice but if I had to do it over I'd get the Kartboy. Also pick up the front shifter bushings (2 piece design) and the rear shift bushing (1 piece). You will love it!

tip: you will need a plastic coated BFH to get the shifter ball into the socket cup. Or get a set of springclip pliers to disassemble socket cup.

You all know what a BFH is, right?
