Arrow getting to the door speakers in a 2009??

I'm wondering how to get to the side speakers in the doors in a 2009 WRX. They are buzzing at low bass, and the service techs can't fix it. I know all I have to do is put some dynamat or something at the spots where it's vibrating and that will solve the problem.

I just can't figure out how to get to the speakers, since they seem to be mounted completely inside the plastic door paneling. Any ideas on where to pry or what to unscrew??

I appreciate any help you might have!! Thanks

I'm guessing the 09's are fairly similar in construction to earlier models. To remove my door cards in an 05 there are two screws and a bunch of plastic clips. You also have to remove the window switch trim piece and its wiring.

One screw is in the interior door pull (the thing you hold onto to close the door). With a flathead screwdriver gently pry open the little cover on the bottom of the cup. Remove the screw.

The other screw is in the interior door handle (the thing you pull to open the door). Again with a flathead screwdriver gently pry open the little door and remove the screw.

To remove the window switch trim piece, lift it straight out of the door, starting in the rear. I used a flathead to pry it off. Disconnect the connector.

Now you should be able to snap off the plastic clips. Open the door. Starting from the lower rear of the door pull the trim away from the metal. It will feel tight, but pull or pry gently and the first clip will pop. I think there are 5 or 6 clips along running down the back and bottom of the door. Once these are all free you should be able to lift the door card out.

The speakers are mounted to the inner metal skin, and should be obvious once the door card is out.

Since you mentioned dynamating the area surrounding the speakers, check out my RAAMmat install thread. I soundproofed the whole car Soundproof thread

Thanks!! I'll take a look at the thread, I really appreciate the info!

It seems like the Subaru clips are a better quality than the ones I had in the Acura; these seem to be somewhat sturdy. The Acura's would break if you looked at them the wrong way..
