i can't find a damn phone line i can use to make it so i took apart the basic one that it comes with..

there are two little screws, then once you pop it open everything comes out of the case (see pics)





in the 8500 x50s the capacitors go bad and you can replace them yourself for about $50 as long as you know how to solder.. unfortunately i don't so i have to deal with it..

and then thats really all i had to mess with lol but there are 4 more..

i couldn't find any wire so i took an old cellphone car charger, cut both ends and spliced the wires together. i didn't cut the metal ends off just in case all of this is an epic fail and i'm just

all taped up and secure i wanted to rig up a housing w/o cutting up the stock one.

from the same car charger i drilled 3 holes all next to each other (red/green led lighs and mute)

i grind down the piece and put it all together. (ignore the ugliness on the right side of the pic, its the original +/- ends incase this all fails; i'll trim the original if this works



spliced in clips so i can tap it into an open fuse and ground it..

i'm only confused on this last part, which fuse should i tap into that goes on when i put it on accessory and what amp fuse would be best to keep me from frying my radar?

Try the cigarette lighter, I think it's on acessory only.

haven't had a chance to install it yet but figured out a way to check it.. i took a dewalt drill battery 18v battery and touched the cable ends to the leads.. AND



it works! ignore the spray paint on my hands, i was playing around w/ some stencils.

and couln't i just splice the wire going to the cigarette lighter?

You could but running it from the fuse block is easier and less permanent.... Ya know ?

yeah i think i'm going that route, i know i have a fusible link somewhere in my house, haha i just have to find it.

i'm also wiring in an ON/OFF switch with a green LED because I found it laying around on my desk; score!
