in any case- you dont really "buy" black taillights.. most people just get film overlays to darken them.

Im pretty sure no one even makes headlights or taillights after market for the Subaru's other than the 02-03 year.

Where are you located at? I just bought an 02 WRX that has the dark taillights and am looking for some stocks to swap out with. I'm in Oregon right now but am driving back to El Paso here in 2 days. So, if you are on the way perhaps i can make a pit stop and swap em.

It may depend on your state or city laws. I've never heard of it being illegal. You can still clearly see the turn signals and/or brake lights, so there shouldn't be a problem.
