    Post 2002 WRX Clean Up

    Hey guys,

I have an 02 Silver WRX with 92000 miles on it and I'm looking to really fix it up. It runs great and I haven't had any real problems with it. Its older so its not as fast and could be better.

Anyway I was looking for suggestions on where to start. I want to make it stable so it can support whatever I throw at it. I was planning on just the basics first like Suspension, tires and such but was wondering where the best place to start is. Again, the car is an 02 with 92k so, what would you do first to get this ready to be fixed up and moded?

Time timing belt is scheduled for 105K so you may as well start there I suppose. After that, and anything that it may bring to light (seals, water pump, etc.) do the full service too, changing all fluids and filters.

Get the car in the air, bring the brakes to as-new or better, look into tyres but if you can, then save the money and use the stock rims (no reason not to, they're great). Mod from the ground up and inward. Look at a rear sway, links, and bushings, and see if you need to replace the dampers -- if so, look at GR2 for a little firmer or AGX for firmer and adjustable (both from Kayaba) or if you've got coin, Koni inserts. Numerous springs are available; pick a set that drops as little as possible and gets good reviews for ride quality.
The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry. Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms, 1929
