Which DVD/Nav unit should i get?

    Hey,
I've been looking at a bunch of differnt in dash units for my 03 wrx and my top choices right now are:

    Jensen VM9512

    Pioneer Avic-D3

    Kenwood DDX512

Navigation is not a must for me, but I wouldnt mind having it. Musts for me are iPod cabability (audio/video), DVD, aux imput, and touchscreen. Also, i'm looking for as cheap as possible with probably a 700 max spending limit.

If anyone can offer some input that could help me make a decision or offer other units that they have found to be great i'd appreciate that as well.
    Thank you!

I have the Kenwood DNX8120 and am very happy with it.
Built in bluetooth, optional FM traffic, optional rear view camera, built-in ipod and usb connectors, dvd drive, Nav on the HD, so no dvd nav disc. Granted, it's quite a bit above your $700 limit.
However, the Kenwood GPS is a Garmin Nav unit, so it's pretty rock solid. You do realize however that the kenwood ddx512 is navigation READY (you need to buy an additional unit).

That said, I've seen a few carputers that are pretty wicked too. It really depends on how wild you want to get. A lot of people have the AVIC and swear by them. (BTW, is that DDX512 supposed to be Kenwood?) Avic does have a fairly good user support base and separate forums at AVIC411.com . The downside is that I think the nav is dvd based, so you have to switch out discs all the time if you want to for instance watch a movie.

I don't really know much about the Jensen unfortunately. The one you listed is also navigation READY.

Between the options you listed, I'd prob. go with the Avic as it has the nav capability built in already.

If you're willing to spend around $700 I think you may be able to find the DNX5120 online for about that amount - that unit has the garmin nav built in also. Or perhaps the Avic F700BT? has built in bluetooth. Both are around $700 online and probably better bangs for the buck.

edit: oh never mind- the F700bt doesn't have dvd capability. Out of all the options listed, I'd pick the Kenwood DNX5120. I think it has be best overall integration, plus the Nav is on the internal memory, so you don't need to change discs. You can find it on Amazon for less that $700. I'm assuming you'll install it yourself so you'll prob. need to get a subaru stereo adapter cable from like crutchfield or something.

    Anyone else with an opinion?
I think i've narrowed it down to either the Jensen or the Avic D3. Please let me know why/why not I should buy either. Thanks!

i would reconsider the kenwood. a decent one may be right at yoru price limit, but i just spent a couple weeks researching before getting the kenwood DNX8120. Fantastic unit. I found that others had terrible graphic interfaces. Some of them had startup times upwards of 2 minutes before being fully functional. The kenwood is way ahead on all of that, and standard features as well. Theres a coupon floating around the internet for the Kenwood DNX8120 for 1049 shipped. Fantastic deal from an authorized kenwood retailer (6th ave electronics). i was considering he DDX 812 but decided i'll only be doing this once and may as well go all out.
