Racer series don't require Control Unit (I believe they don't even work with it)
BF series does require it.
This is a discussion on DEFI guages (any answers?) within the Interior Mods forums, part of the Tech & Modifying & General Repairs category; does anyone have any erxperience with these guages? i know yo can hook them all up together anbd make them ...

im sorry i jsut started to look at them and i dont really know the difference the only thing i know that i want are the ones that move all together when you turn the car on. my friend told me aboutthem and i searched them up on the web and i didnt really know the diffrence. he jsut told me that they all move together when you turn the car on but you need a controller for that
The Defi Gauges BL Series (which is the most normal one nowadays) requires a separate unit called the Defi Link Controller which you can plug up to 7 gauges into it.
Once you connect your gauges to the controller, when you start your engine the gauges will turn on together and perform what they call an "opening ceremony"

The Defi racer gauges don't requre the control unit and still to an opening cerimony.
Prosport gauges look cheep, IMO.
There are other choices out there too, OP.
Gruppe-S sells the Defi gauges - Defi Meters
They have information on it, read up.
I might be back in the market for the new STI sedan!
