    Calling all Audiophiles!!!!!

So here is my dilemna everyone. I got my new head unit today (Eclipse AVN2210p) and was going to toss 'er in this afternoon. Well, the factory radio plug is different than the plug on the back of the head unit. The factory harness is a 14 pin, and the head unit is a 16 pin. There is a wiring adapter, that was included. I have the wire guide (which pins are which wire), for both the factory harness and the radio.

My question now is, is it as simple as cutting off the factory plug and soldering the wires together? If so, what do I do with the extra two wires? I'm sorry I don't know what they go to. I will update when I get home.

    Thanks in advance all.

no do not cut - go 2 the local car stereo shop - best buy whatever

they make wire harness that connect right 2 ur factory plug - than just connect the wires color 2 color from the plug (just bought from the store & connect to the Eclipse harness) - they also make kits 2 make the install cleaner

    check www.metraonline.com or www.bestkits.com

hopefully 1 of those can help - there are others out there - I've used both of these brands @ 1 time or another - so good luick

    +1

This way, you can replace the factory stereo when you decide you don't want the car anymore.

Glad to see you can buy those....I sorta made my own. No local Best Buy, Circuit City, or even a car audio store nearby. Since my factory radio was dead, I removed the male side of the plug from the back of the radio. Matched up pins/colors/etc, and soldered the new units harness to those. Didn't get a chance to plug it in and see if she works. Thats on the agenda tomorrow. Only problem, OEM harness specifies two wires for illumination/dimming....new harness only had one wire, so thats an empty pin.

Well see how it works tomorrow. I'll let you guys now. Thankls for the info!!

Got it all soldered together. Plugged the new HU in, and voila! Presto-chango, the son of a gun works.

I'm psyched to have new tunes, navi, bluetooth phone integration and will soon have sirius...as soon as the translator shows up!
