Question 07 - how to remove radio/hvac plastic face plate?

I searched and I couldn't find an answer.

I'm trying to remove the face plate that covers the radio/heater controls. I've removed the plastic piece the contains the shifter boot/cigarette lighter, and removed the 2 bottom screws to the face plate covering the radio.

I managed to pop it off somewhat beginning at the bottom but I can't figure out how to remove it at the top. Does the plastic surrounding the center vents/hazard light button need to be removed? If so, I've attempted to pry it off but I don't want to break anything.

    I found this:

He tugs on that piece until it comes off. I tried using a decent amount of force but I'm afraid of breaking something. Any tricks?

I'm assuming the 05 is similar to my 07

I've had mine off to put a red hazard button in. you just have to start at the bottom, and work your way up. i also felt like i was going to break it, but if your careful you'll be fine.

If you look at the subaru subwoofer install document - it shows in detail how to get that off. Look at:

    http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/ixSe...12&free_pub=13

The sub I installed was the H6300SS900, but I believe they are all the same. Either way, just find a sub install doc for your car, and you will see where the clip points are. I used a "door clip removal tool" very easily and didn't break anything.

Top piece - with the two vents, and the hazard button, 2 screws on the bottom side

Middle piece - with the stereo and hvac, top part just pops out, bottom part has a screw on each side (behind shifter trim)

Bottom piece - shifter trim - just pops out, then disconnect the cig lighter connection.

To remove all 3..... start from the bottom them move up.

    To get it out:

    1. Remove shift boot trim
    2. remove the screws at the bottom
    3. wrap flat blade screw driver end in scotch tape
    4. insert screwdriver between dash and plastic piece on the right or left side about middle of the radio.
    5. gently pry plastic piece out.
    6. repeat for other side.

    Thanks all.

I may attempt this soon. What I'm trying to do is re-route my Sirius Radio.
