2008 WRX w/ Navi: How to watch DVD while driving

So today I popped in Old School on DVD. It started to play (looks awesome) and I assumed as soon as I put down the e-brake it would turn off.

It didnt. Huh?

So then I went to turn up the volume and the screen went black, but the audio kept going.

At the next intersection i pulled up the e-brake 1 click and the video came back, and I drove away. The video stayed on.

Do not touch any button on the stereo or audio steering wheel controls and the DVD will play w/ video.

hahaha, i agree but my parents who own the 08 drive 5 hours to New Hampshire just about every week so it will be nice for them to have. The MDX has a rear entertainment LCD but no one can see it unless they are in the back seats.

That's rather fancy. Be careful in MD it's illegal to have a TV screen viewable to driver while vehicle is in motion. I imagine several states have that now.

most of the older Nav systems use a switch on the e-brake that allows it to show a video, and those were super easy to 'trick' you just complete the circuit that gets tripped when the e-brake us pulled and the HU thinks the e-brake is on all the time and the video plays whenever,

Newer systems acually use a gyroscopic sensor that can tell when the vehicle is in motion and disconnect the picture-- tricking those types of systems are a bit more tricky. I am assuming that is what the 08 WRX has.

the 08 is connected to the e-brake. But it wont turn off till you touch a button on the stereo. If it goes black, just pull the e-brake (literally like a half inch, doesnt engage at all) and the video comes back on.

08 is superior in every way possible. Lighter, faster, higher quality interior, better looking, more interior space, better handling, more comfortable suspension, navi, sirius, and i just got confirmed info from Subaru that the new paint is better. (look for the thread soon).
