1st time installing AMP + Subs

So I'm installing an amp + subs to my 04 subby wrx that has a new stereo in it(The thing that controls what you are listening to).

1st, is it hard to do this?

2nd, are there any instructions or should it come with the amp?

    Thanks in advance

It really depends on what you plan to get, there are some sub boxes that have an amp built in, or you can get a box, then a separate amp. For the best sound you will want to get a separate AMP and Box with Subs. Basically you will need to run the preouts from your head unit (stereo) to your AMP and then also run the Remote wire from your head unit also. Then from the battery you will need to connect the main power line and run it to the AMP. the Ground is all that is left and that must be grounded, I usually ground it right next to the AMP/Sub Box. Be sure to use the proper size wire for the power you are pushing to ensure no fires, also be sure to install a fuse within 18" of the batter wire you connect for the positive lead.

It's pretty simple and straightforward, but i'll be glad to help you along with any questions you have along the way. I made a pretty decent setup in my car, i think theres a thread on this site somewhere.

The only instruction that the amp will come with tell you how to hook up the subs and speakers to get the proper impedance and wattage. Everything else you need to design.

Good advice here...I'd like to reinforce what spincycle said; it's important to use the proper gauge wire for the amperage that you're pushing, fusing, and make your ground connection with a short piece of wire to somewhere close. Otherwise a ground wire can try to act like an antenna, and all sorts of weird things can happen.

Also disconnect the ground to your car's battery while working on this stuff.

If these concepts are unfamiliar to you, you might want to get some help from someone for your first Amp install. There's not much to wiring the subs into the amp.
