    New shifter and boot problem

Ok I know this is gonna make me sounds like I don't know what I'm doing.... and ya know what your right!
    I have an 04 WRX.
Anyway, I got a new shifter knob (Momo) from a friend, and I went to take off the old knob... got it off np, now I go to put the new one on, it gets on fine... but how to I get the boot to stay w/ the bottom of the new knob? I know there is a white plastic piece in the old stock knob to hold the boot however I can't get the damn thing out. I've tried plyers and I dont' wanna break it. Any ideas or quick fixes? Anything is apprieciated.

Yes. Find a washer that snuggly fits around the shifter. Larger than the opening diameter of the boot's opening. But not too large...

I did this using a plastic washer and a dremel. Being plastic made it somewhat flexible to bend around the boot's opening.

I think my new $20 bling looks good:

I think it was a plumbing washer. I had it laying around in the garage. Don't be fooled by the flexibility of it, it wasn't THAT flexible.
