Oh man I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I have a question. What is the unit between the windshield and map lights on an '02 ? It folds out, but it has absolutetly no purpose that I can see..( It's up on the headliner..)

That's what I thought at first also, but it really doesn't come down far enough to do anything..Originally Posted by DJSHADOW7

It is designed to be a sunshade, however, it doesnt do anything lol. That is why on the '05+ they just put black "dot" tint on the winshield itself above the rear view mirror.Originally Posted by timber

Thanks for the replies, guys. (And I didn't even have to use my flamesuit..)
My wife asked me what that thing was for, and I told her I thought it might be some sort of sunscreen, but it definitely doesn't work for that purpose, so I told her I would post the question to those in the know...

Yeah its pretty useless. I'm always telling people what its for, but never actually using it. I believe there's a mod where you flip it around which allows it to actually work. I don't need it that much though hahaha.

i posted a thread like this before, i think someone said it was to block the map lights from the rear view mirror, so there is no glare if they are used at night
When I first noticed it thought "cool, that will come in handy". Until you go to use it.Way too short. What were they thinking?

I forgot all about that thing until I just read this thread...![]()
OK I can see that. Then why did they take it out and replace it with the black dot stuff?Originally Posted by wrx slob

Well maybe it served two functions........blocking the sun between the visors and reducing the glare of the map lights. Well now instead there's the black dot stuff on the windshield and the map lights are probably further back (not directly above/infront of the rearview mirror).Originally Posted by 04.SPT.WRX
