    Escort/Passport

At about $300-$350, the Passport is my choice. I'm not worried about paying the ticket, it's the points on my license that I have to avoid, and it's a small investment compared to losing my insurance !

Well the X band is typically a nuisance band... the Passport allows you to lower the sensitivity to it or get rid of it all together.

Ive had the 8500 X50 since i had my car. (also used my brothers previously) and its worked great. My brother friend had the v1 (until it was stolen) and now has the passport and says they both are pretty much the same except for the arrows, which IMO do not really matter because if it is going off then im going to not speed regardless of left or right.
...If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first.

    V1 vs. Passport

They are both great detectors. I seem to remember years ago though, that Valentine was accused of fudging some specs or something? Anybody remember that?

Of course, back in the 80s, when the quality of these things was first improviong by leaps and bounds, Car and Driver did a competitive test. (Before the Valentine was on the market) All the major manufacturers sent in test units for the staff to try out in comparative testing.

Out of something like ten units, the two best were the Escort and another company's model. Everybody knew at the time that this particular unit was a total piece of crap compared ot the Escort, so they took it apart, and sure enough, it was a fake unit with an Escort cobbled up inside it. The company had done their own testing, and determined that the Escort was tops,s o they submitted a fake unit for the test!

I think it was Fuzzbuster, but I am NOT SURE - do not quote me on the make.

The magazine called the offending company's bluff, gave the company a chance to explain, and published their findings along with a statement from the company saying they somethign like were reverse engineering the Escort, and were close to matching it, but couldn't get the new unit to market on time for the tests. "But we'll have the same technology soon," so to speak.

Cincinnati Microwave was a very advanced scientific firm. At the time, they also made some of the best satellite TV receivers, but they were eventuallly forced out of that market, I think, because htey were much better at science than designing usability features and sexy gee-gaw bells and whistles.

"Radar Roy," the retired cop who runs a website selling radar detectors claims the Beltronics and Passport products are both better than Valentine, but he doesn't sell it, eh? www.radarbusters.com He likes the Beltronics RX65 better, because of the voice feature, I think, calls it "the best detector he ever tested."

I bought the Passport 8500 because I am just loyal to the brand. CM definitely made the very best unit on the market, hands down, no contest, back when I bought my first unit, and I have liked them ever since. There's something to be said for a company who's products you trust.
