Valentine One Hardwire

I hard wired in my Valentine One Radar Detector on Saturday. I loosely followed the instructions on http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292462839 except I placed the hardwire module in the ceiliing and just ran a 2' phone wire down along the windshield. I also ran the ground wire into map light housing and placed the "Y" directly under the screw against the ground plate. I didn't think the frame would be a reliable enough connection. I put a little foam around the hardwire unit to prevent it from rattling between the roof and the ceiling.

It looks incredibly clean and thanks to the great photos on the site, it only took me about 15 minutes, start to finish. Only about 4" of wire is exposed with the rest tucked away just in case the detector gets knocked loose. I just met a guy with a WRX wagon near me and he did exactly the same thing. He has the remote display unit and said running the wire was close on length. I'd same put the hardwire module on the left, to get it close to the instrument cluster. Then you can put it where the guy on the imagestation site put his.

Don´t need those around here. IF they catch you speeding around here, and they even BOTHER to go after you, all you need is a little money depending on your age, looks, and what car you drive!!!! You can get away clean starting at about 5 Soles (1 US $ = about 3.48 Soles)..... cool, but sucks at the same time.... oh well thats part of the fun of being a 3rd world country.

Those Valentine 1's work very well, I cna't remember how many time its saved my friend from getting all sorts of tickets. One thing you have to be aware of is around onramps of the freeway because that's usually when people get busted. Just just try not to break the law and you won't get a ticket.

When I visited Singapore for the Singapore Auto Salon a couple of years ago a lof of the people who fix up cars there take their cars to Malaysia becuase some cops accept "coffee money" there... but you have to give them a lot more than a few dollars, sometiems they even have you call your friends to bring more more money. I heard it's getting better though... the Evolutions and the WRXs are 2 of the more popular cars in Singapore and cars in Singapore cost about 5-10X more than the cars here. I'm guessing a WRX would probably cost at least US $150,000.

Crap! that is expensive.... I thought we had it bad here.... new WRX costs 36.5k US $. EVO VII costs 51k $ here, the Impreza GX NA new gen. is about 23k$. A ´98 Impreza GT is about 20k$.....
The 12 STIs brought here in 98 or so were shipped here directly from Japan along with a Subaru STI engineer to do the steering swap cost the lucky owners about 70k$.
They stopped bringin´them because of the price, and the owner were really annoyed that the cars shut down at 240 KM/H when they were just starting to have fun.... the computer had to be fooled into belieing the were going like 40 Km/h less, and so the speedo also reads wrong.... the Subaru dealer that I spoke to said that the chip to de/limit the car was reaaaallly expensive at the time and not woth it.... go figure....

"Depending on your car" Ain't that the truth. I had a NJ state trooper pace me at 94mph on 295 (65mph zone). I had an FOP card from NJ, but I know one of the reasons he let me go was that 94 mph isn't even fast in a WRX and I wasn't being an ass either. I slowed down when I came up on traffic.

The Valentine1 rules. I don't leave home without it. What else can give you the confidence to average 85+ on the PA turnpike in a 55 mph zone?

How much does a good radar detector cost? I hear they are really expensive.....

MMC, The V1 costs about $400. You could also try a BEL or an Escort for about $280. The V1 is expensive because it has front and rear antennas and tells you where the radar is coming from. I think it is worth the extra money. It comes with a visor clip, a suction cup mount, two wires, the cigarette lighter adapter, the hardwire kit, two extra suction cups, and a great instruction manual.

Well if and when I go the the States for my medical residency program in a few years, I´ll be sure to get one of those before I even begin thinking of any performance upgrades....

Hey MMC, don't try giving the cops "Coffee Money" if you get pulled over stateside. They'll probably throw your butt in jail for attempting to bribe a police officer.

Heheheheh.... I bet glazed donuts would do the trick though Just joking... Actually I´m gonna be in the US this Summer (actually winter for you)... I´m gonna be in Park City, Utah with the Olympics and all working in a resort paking cars and crap... I hope the cars are cool, and the tips are good. I might buy soem stuff for my car while I´m there, but then again not much that can be done to an NA car....

BTW, how good is a 8 $ and hour salary plus tips for parking cars??? Thats a hell of a lot better than many doctors make here!

Yep the cell phone is a biggy. And the big curly cord was a pain in the rear because I kept bumping it and dislodging the suction cups.

I live in Brazil and dont have those problems here =)
I can speed whenever i want to..
The problem is yesterday i was driving at i think 210KM/H and i almost killed myself as a truck entered my lane.
I tested my 4 pot brakes and they did a good job..
If i was in My dakota with 350HP NOS ,,i would now be killed..It was a Cliff with rocks waaay down under..If i felt from there its the end.
Anyway,,god bless i was in my WRX =)
Something tells me i will have Trouble as this little Devil ask for the WOT..
