I just clip my mini to the ashtray. Plug in the Griffin adapter to power from the car and wrap the excess cord around the shifter. The darned thing works really well for me, too.

is there a way to take a car charger and hard wire it into the cig lighter? then i could come up with a mount and hard wire it, and hide most of the wires

Not without tearing the plug apart to reverse engineer things. I've seen folks go behind the lighter socket and wire in another socket or two, then plug stuff in and shove the wire bundle back there. Not my cup of tea, and I have some experience in the technology. It's a proximity problem.

    Good Luck.

Wow this is kinda offtopic but I met the guy who designed this thing the other day. coincidence.

He also did the RocketFM and the microphone recorder one that looks like the itrip.

has the itrip been redesigned? I bought one two years ago that basically went into the headphone jack. It was terrible. You had to download stations, and if you shuffled, you'd get this tone that sounded like a fax machine transfer. The reception sucked, and it completely ate the ipod battery in like an hour.

Sufficed to say, I tossed it and bought the monster one that charges as it transmits. It's worked pretty well, though the sound quality is far short of a CD.
