    Expansion: SAAbaru owners!

Ive been thinking about this for a while now, and I think that it would be benefitial to our entire community if we started to include the Saab 9-2x owners.

As we all know the 9-2X is basically an Impreza Wagon (both 2.5RS [linear], and WRX [aero]). For this reason a lot of parts, tuning techniques, and driving experiences are the same as us Subaru owners.

Currently, the only websites i can find for them are SaabCentral, and some other small site. None of them are very large, but the SC one has a decently sized community with well over 3,000 posts on 9-2x topics.

Also, on these other sites the 9-2x owners arent appretiated, they are ridculed and shunned b/c their do not drive "true saab's." I really think they would benefit from a joint message board.

My idea is to either make another URL of www.Club92x.com which will redirect to the central website that is currently clubWRX.com. All you would have to do is maybe add an extra Saab forum, and then make the EJ20T include the Saab. Maybe make a new banner logo and a more central name for the larger website. i dunno, thats up to you guys.

I think this would be a great idea and something we could all benefit from. Think about people who want a slightly more upscale experience, they get the 9-2x, but they still want that community that they love, and we all know CWRX is the nicest subie website on the net. (which is why i dont post this topic on NASIOC, or i-Club).

    Think it over guys

    I Support ClubWRX
There are several 9-2X members here. I know that when I was still moderating "Welcome to the Club" I talked to several new members with Saabs.

Hopefully, they are appreciated as brothers in boost!

As much as I hate that idea, I kind of have to agree. I can think of a few arguments against it, however. Aside from the time it would take to set up the Saab portions of the board, is the fact that it may stir up some good ol' Saab/Subaru rivalry. That's minor, though, and I think most of the board members are mature enough to get past that. My second argument against it is the fact that it may not bring enough traffic to be worth it. Most Saab enthusiasts hate the 9-2x, and most Subaru enthusiasts hate the 9-2x. I have a feeling the Saabaru "tuners" will be a small group in between, and that small group hasn't had much time to form. Perhaps a single 9-2x test forum would be a good idea, then if it starts growing, expand it.

I would think that WRX and 9-2x owners would share a common bond. Why hate eachother? its the same car. its like Camaro owners hating Firebird owners. same car.

And it shouldnt be too hard to create the extra forums. They do that all the time, adding and deleting old ones.

I think that if we advertised on the other boards and had it come up when google'd that a lot of traffic would come and we can always use an ever expanding community. Plus id imagine that most 9-2x owners are more mature, not kids who got a new car for their birthday and want to know what kind of CAI and BOV to get.

    Hope it works.

i think all saab owners are welcome here, just like any other car owner. just because a particular sect is getting shunned at their "mother" sites, doesn't warrant clubWRX.net to suddenly accomodate them. everyone's already welcome here. i know a lot of SRT-4 owners come here b/c their particular forums are bad. should ClubWRX.net set up a section for them? i think instead, all these other "refugees" should come and join the community, rather than be partitioned off to enjoy Tim's bandwidth on their own.

saab owners are welcome to join up and ask their engine performance questions, and all other relevant tech related crossover questions in the appropriate forums. i don't think segregating saab only discussion makes any sense, if the whole reason it's being proposed that they come here is b/c there are similarities. to put it simply, if they are already the same, then why make a new place for the same discussion?

also If you're going to go through the trouble of setting up a domain name for the 9-2x, then you might as well set up a forum for it too. setting up a vb forum takes all of 2 hours. it's pretty simple. that is, if there is even enough 9-2xs out there to warrant an entire club.

a good example is the STi only discussion. you'd think that forum would gaet a lot more attention, instead, many of the STi guys end up posting the marjority of their posts in the other forms. it just so happens they can only discuss STi specific items so much until they delve into the discussions in OT, EIT, and all the other forums

I can see what your saying, but i think the community would grow to be much larger if we made it more open to our Saab cousins. We are so alike that it would make sense.

    had some free time..

I have nothing against the 92x at all, I kind of like it actually. I do feel however that if the buyer of a 92x is an enthusiast he/she will know that it is just a rebadged impreza. That said, they would know where to go for information on the web (e.g.- here).

If they can't figure out that a great place to find information about their car is an established WRX board, well then..they aren't really automotive enthusiasts are they? They likely walked bought the car for the badge and would never think of a subaru. Do we need those people here?

I have nothing against the owners of these cars. I welcome the car guys who find us. It's not that hard.

I just think we shouldn't make it easier for the posers to come here and clog up the board.

I dont really think anyone walked in a bought the 9-2x for the badge since the entire Saab community hates the car. lol. But it could happen.

I also think that they are less likely to post here b/c it is clubWRX. it doesnt seem inviting to them and they have no idea that they are welcome. We assume they know, but ive yet to see 9-2x owners here (a couple), on NASIOC, i-club, etc. and i know they arent getting the best information on SaabCentral since its a totally different car from the 9-3, 9-5, etc.

i still like my idea, maybe some form of it could come to life.

oh and dR I know its easy to make a board initially, ive made a few phpbb boards in my time. but i think its easier if an estabilished board expands than to make a new board and somehow get the word out and people to join.

EDIT: i made that graphic at like midnight, i was tired, just realised a mistake, EJ20T wouldnt include the STi (my bad).

well, that is kind of the result of the fact we're a subaru WRX forum, right? i'd prefer ClubWRX to stay that way, rather than dilute itself into a general car forum....

I dont think its diluting since the cars are the same basically. it would be like not allowing a Camaro/Firebird website, or Stealth/3000GT, or Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Caravan, or a Laser/Talon/Eclipse website. Since they are so similar it makes sense to allow one website for both groups.

    agian, just an idea.

i never could figure out why someone would pay almost $5k more for a simple re badger. i mean a mercury sable and ford taurus were never more than $1000 apart for the same equipped vehicle, same with the Ford Escape Mazda Tribute, Ford Probe Mazda MX6, Ford Escort Mercury Tracer, etc as well as several other corporate twins. It was like all the toyota corolla owners who hated the chevy prism even tho it was mechanically identical (which btw was probably one of the best value cars ever built) But regardless of all that I dont see why anyone would have a problem with 9-2x owners posting here regularly since everything mechanically on the 2 cars is the same, i dont see the need for a seperate board or seperate section of the board. a seperate STi board is well justified since it is very different from a base WRX just like they have a seperate TypeR board over on honda tech. ill just start crying (or laughing) tho when WRX wagon owners start buying "9-2x conversion kits"

I'm with D0WNxSH1FT make the board more open for all models of Subaru and the new SAABaru owners. We have had to re-evaluate the attention the SAAB is getting and think of it in business way. It increases our potential customer base, potential service base, and potential freind base. If they bought the SAABaru they may be the next STI owner. And if they feel welcome they will bring thier friends and family with them. More people would mean more meets, more races, more of everything. We have added a Saabaru parts center to our site and we get a lot of hits and some sales from it.

As far as the board goes, I would re-think the name alittle and think about the type of people you want posting here. ClubEJ20 would possibly limit the club to just WRX and Saab owners. Some people with the 2.5 turbo's might feel you are not interested in their input. We have been doing quite a bit with the 2.5 series (like the new Legacy and Forester) and the customers are usually a little older, more mature, finacially stable, and better educated. Besides you never know when Subaru would do something like change the 2.0 to a 2.2 or 2.5 only. It would be easier for them to simplify production and parts distribution.

i think they should drop the 2.0 altogether. i mean seriously the WRX is the only model that uses it. maybe keep it in japan as the spec c race model but over here everyone even hyundai is going toward larger displacement motors...there is no replacement for displacement and when that extra displacement is accompanied by more boost everyone wins

Well the interior is identical to the '05 WRX, minus the leather seats (which arent the race style that the WRX gets).

But it does have the STi steering rack, and a few other things that set it apart from the WRX.

The easiest way to do it would be to just add to the forum descriptions 9-2x. We have a Subaru Enthusiasts Hangout, you can say Subaru/Saab Enthusiasts Hangout, Everyday Impreza Talk could be Everyday Impreza/9-2x Talk, and WRX vs. World could be WRX/9-2x vs. World, etc. and we can advertise on the saab websites about the expansion.
