If new users are not allowed to post links until, say, their 20th or so post, and if they are not told so until after they attempt to do so for the first time,
    1. they'll be surprised...
    2. it'll cut down on the first-post spammers dramatically
    3. it'll waste a little bit of a would-be spammer's time while (s)he sets up an account etc. only to be denied

    Just a thought.

However, this would reduce the number of quality waffle threads - and I'm not sure I could handle that.

    Fooling Spammers is hard!

While I like the idea because people won't accidently click bogus links then and get their identity stolen, it's hard to fool spammers.

I think the amount of spammers will be the same, we'll just see more threads like this:

Hornee hot house Wives are waiting for u! Just visit www.hothousewives .com
(remove the space and copy and past the link in your browser)

How else do spammers slip through filters?

Last night's "banzai tree" thread sent me over the edge, you see, and I'm a little ashamed to admit I completely lost it over some guy spamming miniature trees but, well, I did...

I for one kind of enjoy the spam threads there kind of entertaining. However I do undertsand that they take up/waste space on thr forum.

If you get angry, that means the spammers have won.
