    ONE dedicated thread

need your opinion.....honestly i'm not even sure if this is a good idea, but here goes nothing.

over on the mazda forums, if there's one thread dedicated to something, they'll call it : "The official xxx thread". after that, ANY new threads on the topic gets locked, and you get linked back to the "official" thread.

yes, i understand that this calls for lots and lots of 1,256 page threads. but then i realized: we do the same thing here, we just don't know it:

    HIJACK THIS THREAD
    BUGEYED MAFIA
    BLOBEYED SYNDICATE

just to name a few. i also understand that NONE of those threads are car related, but it does prove that there's a market for those kind of threads.

another thing: i'm honestly drooling over a BOV and CAI dedicated thread: when a n00b posts, just lock it up, and send them on their way to the thread. also, it's fun to chime in, say "BOV's suck donkey balls," and then leave. again, similar to the three threads i made above.

what do you guys think? seems to be the norm over at the mazda forums.

I belong to other forums where they do that. The problem is, little subtopics and nuances of the main topic usually end up being discussed in that thread too. That's not a bad thing necessarily, but if you search for something and that thread comes up, most people are unlikely to wade through 1200 pages to find what they need. So then people post a question at the end of the thread that has already been covered somewhere in the thread already, and you end up with a boatload of repeat info. Can you imagine something like "The official UTEC thread!!"?!? Trying to wade through pages of that would be insane.

With that said, I don't think that people posting repeat threads is necessarily a better solution, but I do know that it makes searching for answers infinitely easier sometimes...

great point. for the sake of breathing new life into my argument, can you imagine a BOV thread? although we hate to admit it, we turn into NASIOC as soon as a new thread gets started about BOV's. the original poster stands no chance. in addition, there's virtually no information to be learned on BOV's because most people don't have one, and they're not that complicated. the UTEC is an beast, but a BOV is a sheep.

come to think of it, instead of making "official" threads across the board, why not just have one for BOV's?

I kind of like the Pavlovian response of long-time clubwrx members to BOV threads. I can't help but read them. They are the clubwrx equivalent of a car wreck you just can't turn away from. I say every new member has to start a BOV thread, just as an initiation rite. Then Brian can pee in their butts.

there are stickies then there are threads. a BOV faq answers frequently asked questions. then, your A/F gauge reads 8:1 after a month of owning your BOV. prior to that, it was normal. in addition, there's a new hissing sound coming from what i think is IC hoses. will the FAQ answer that one?
