The recent problems were caused by the Hurricanes in Florida. It should be fine now though.

This has been an increasingly frequent occurance. There are sometimes when I cannot log onto the site at all. Does the server go down for maintainence on certain nights or certain times?

i would sugest to the admins to check their log files try to run:

    cat /var/log/message* | grep ruser

and check if those IPs are tryin to log in at that hour ...

then set iptables with a set of rules to block those IPS or entire subnets.

let me know if you need help.

    FYI,

There is no bandwidth issue with the site. It all has to do with VBB and mostly MySQL. Currently the server only has 1 GB of ram and for a forum this site its pretty under powered. We are adding more ram to the server this week (upgrading it to 2 GB). We've also made a bunch of optimizations in the last few days to both apache and mysql, as well as fixing some corrupted tables in the mysql DB.

We will also be upgrading to the latest VBB version in the coming days.

So we ask that you just hang tight and the site should be running smoothly soon!

" It all has to do with VBB and mostly MySQL" did you ran TOP ? did you check the logs ??? http://www.systemwars.com/forums/index.php? has the the same config than you (in memory refering) but a AMD proc (im not big fan of AMD becouse of poor performance) and im almos sute they receive way more hits and traffic than you guys .. theere a alot of post-spamers there so the querys are alot too. of coures.. there is a difference... they have a different sofware than you guys. but i would check the log files.

and here is why .. i have ran some studies on servers that are victims of burte force atacks and sick attacks and the Proc temperature is at least 10C higher during those atacs than when they are not being attack. HDD temp raises too. i have erese the log files to proove you that but i still keep the application that i used to mesure it. actually im still working now an then to improve it.

    take a pick here
