    Question Stock K&N filter?

I noticed that the cover for my air filter has a sticker on it about not throwing away the enclosed K&N "non-disposable" air filter. I haven't touched the air filter; it's as it was from the dealership.

Did I buy a modded WRX, or did I just miss the part where Subaru got some sense about the air filter? It's a 2003 wagon, and I bought it used (so pre-mod is possible).

(edit: ok, so "modded" in this case could just mean the air filter. maybe)

my stock filter (I bought it new) looked like a K&N filter, orange with black surrounds. But it was definitely Subaru. I'd take a look, if it says Subaru on there then its not K&N. If it looks ok filter-wise, keep using it till its dirty and get a new one.

I haven't taken a look at the filter, but there's definately a sticker on the cover that says K&N. I'll take a look later.

I just ordered a K&N for my STi - can you feel any difference in HP on the butt-dyno? I like the idea of cleaning & oiling the filter and not buying new filters, but in an STi applicaiton, are there any HP gains?

    Thanks,

    Steve

You won't feel any difference really and I doubt theres any real gain...perhaps some loss. And be careful with the oil, too much and it could get on your MAF sensor and screw things up.

The air filter doesn't look orange or red. It just looks... dirty.

Guess I'll have to pop it out and look for a logo.
