My STI Burning oil... advice please.

Ok.. so this is my situation. I have a 2004 sti about 2 months ago I got the bearings replaced and crank got machined.. I wanted to ecutek/tune my car and the tuner told me that my car had noooo oil. It was almost dry. I freeked out. I asked the mechanic that fixed my car about 6 weeks ago if he added oil and laughed at me and said of course I did. I have the bill from subaru for the filter plus I obviosuly did cuz you needed a new oil pan. Anyways they think that I need new RINGS.. can this be why I am burning so much oil? He said it's not normal to burn 3 1/2 litres in 4 -5 weeks he also said that the car was detonatig? anyways his reccomendation was to monitor my oil for the next month and see from there... can anyone explain?
