    Im bout to change my oil for the first time, what oil should i purchase for better performance? And which oil filter?

    Mobil 1 synthetic of course...
    and the Subaru Oil filter works fine.

    edit: this has been covered a lot, you should probably serach for more answers

    Lets see, the best oil would be:
    Mobil, Castrol, Redline, Royal Purple, Valvoline

    does the subaru dealership replace the filter everytime you go get an oil change?

    yes, you have to replace the filter everytime you change the oil.

    Mobil 1 synthetic

    one of my golfs lasted 550k (no typo) on that oil before it was totalled.

    Wait.

    Don't replace it with synthetic if its your first oil change!!!


    Wait to around 5-6,000 miles before switching to synthetic

    I think Subaru recommends waiting 'till the break-in period is over...That's all.

    The engine needs the friction that crappy oil provides to properly wear in.
