DOH! Totaled the car today :(

OK, it wasn't my '04 scooby but instead my wife's '98 eclipse. We were rear ended at about 40mph and the car is on life support tonight...unlikely to make it.

    Now for the interesting part.....
My first option was to obviously offer my wife my WRX and I would of course sacrifice it for an STi. (Quickly shot down there).

Option number 2....trying to talk her into an RSX-S (possible but still dodging bullets on that one...she doesnt want to spend that much money).

Option number 3....talk her into a Mazda 3s. Anyone else have some suggestions? I think we are looking for around 19k, 20k at most. She has expressed some interest in a Tib but I am putting my foot down on that one. Her parents just got an '04 Tib but I am looking for something that will last longer than the 48 payments on it.

    Any suggestions?

tell her to get a modded 98 eclipse gst or gsx. You can finda nice one for aroudn 15k. Buy a used car is what i would do. with a 20k budget u can get something really really nice.

I drove the Mazda3 at mazdarevitup and was quite please and surprised when it came to handling and performance. Its a nice looking car with great handling and some decent kick.

If she is just looking for a daily driver, the Pontiac Vibe is a nice little car. My sister just bought one, and its pretty nice (until you hit the accelerator of course).

At the risk of sounding too obvious, have you already suggested the 2.5 RS?

don't go used for that kind of money, especially used sports car. Why would someone buy beaten up eclipse for 15k and put more money into it. Get something nice and it means def-not domestic.
RS sounds nice, RSX is good too, Mazda 3 is ok but not AT, SVT focus (only domestic i'd consider). But try on that STi wave

Actually, I hadn't considered the 2.5RS. Not a bad idea. We may take a look at one of those.

I kinda like the Vibe/Matrix, especially with the 180hp engine. She is also interested in a Celica GT-s. That would be good enough for her. I am taking her out to a few places this weekend to test drive some cars and well see when we get out there. I still have my fingers crossed that I can talk her into a WRX. She loves driving my car and all she would want is a 4EAT.

I forgot to mention...the insurance company has given us a Toyota Prius to drive. Not a bad looking car and it's got buttons and electronics all over the place. Too bad its $26,500 though. It takes a lot of getting used to b/c the engine cuts on/off, especially at stoplights. When the gas engine starts us it sometimes fells like an AC compressor kicking in but it's pretty smooth.

I would hand the wrx down to her and go get the new STI for yourself. JMHO
Driving a FWD turbo is like masturbating. It is all fun until you realize that your just f***ing yourself.
Get a real power AWD Turbo...
