    Tan, thanks for passing the info along. I'll definitely keep this in mind when we have to replace my wife's oil (Passat 1.8T).

    Tan I noticed a guy on that thread said that even Amsoil XL-7500 is not fully PAO base stock now?

    Also there seem to be varying opinions about the base stock for the Valvoline SynPower. I'm tempted to give it a whirl based on that guy's results.

    Does anybody sell a real synthetic anymore?

    Mobil still does....

    Delvac 1 5w40. It's designed for diesels, and it's API SJ certified. People have used it in their TDIs, then in their VW gas engines, and noticed an improvement in performance and the engines run quieter.

    Problem with Delvac, it's harder to find, and usually more expensive than Mobil 1.
