    60K Service only through Subaru??

Should I do the 60 K service only through Subaru? It costs about 400 which seems like a lot to me. Also if I get the service done somewhere else what should I get done for 60K. What type of spark plugs should I buy??

i would stay away from the dealer. i would say go to a tire place like sullivan tire, or direct tire. price it out with them the dealership's maintenance are way inflated.

    use NGK plugs.

i'm about to do my 60K service, here's the list i'll be taking to the mechanic.

    OIL & FILTER CHANGE
    ALIGNMENT
    ROTATE TIRES
    TIGHTEN E BRAKE CABLE
    REPLACE AIR FILTER
    REPLACE FUEL FILTER
    REPLACE SPARK PLUGS
    TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT
    RADIATOR FLUSH
    REPLACE PCV VALVE
    FLUSH & CHANGE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID
    REPLACE TRANSFER CASE OIL
    LUBRICATE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM
    FLUSH & CHANGE BRAKE FLUID
    CHECK BRAKES
    HEAT SHIELD RATTLE

A tire joint? I'd try to find a good Subaru specialist!

Any qualified mechanic can do these maintenance items. The most comlicated part is the plugs, and most people can do that in their driveway.

I would not reccomend paying the $75+ per hour at subaru for this type of work. find a respectable mechanic and pay half the price for the same work.

subaru specialist is BS. They're regular mechanics.

Must be different out west. Most of the better mechanics are at the tire stores. The tire shops out here (Sullivan Tire, Firestone) are not just tire shops.

Personally, I have a particular customer of the family's store do most of my work. He's thorough, and I trust him. But I use a couple of tire shops as well depending on what the service is.

Yep, a lot of us in Massachusetts consider the geeks from Sullivan Tire "The Pros From Dover."

    They're sharp.

Here in NJ or PA, I wouldn't let anyone from a "tire joint" or "local mechanic" to work on my WRX. I've had the technician that installed my transmission ask me if my car was turbocharged!!!!

I was thinking, did you miss the HUGE ASS EXHAUST PIPE coming from ABOVE the engine?!?!?!!!! I answer, "yes."

I hear, "We don't work on Subarus much." ALL THE TIME.

The only places I trust to work on my car are Precision Tuning in Brick, NJ and Platinum Performance in wherever the hell I am at the time.

Part of my suggestion for a SUby Specialist also is a Colorado thing. There are TONS of Subaru-only shops around. 'Cause there are tons of Subarus here. It's pretty easy to find a place that does excellent work at a fair price and knows everything there is to knnow about Subies.
