do yourself a favor and stay away from fram. no matter the line, they are a lesser quality build, with lesser quality materials.Originally posted by Prince Ali
Not all Frams were judged to be unacceptable. The Fram Tough Guard is one of the recommended filters. The ones he didn't like were the Extra Guard and the super expensive Double Guard.
I've worked in auto parts distribution since i was 14, and my family owns and operates stores all over easter MA and greater boston and has for over 30 years all together. i've been to many a seminar and it's just a lesser brand on all counts.

I usually use Mobil 1 oil filters in my cars but there doesn't seem to be one for the WRX yet.
Any good options or is the OEM Subaru filter the way to go?

Thanks Karl...I should have used the search function myself. New to the board and the WRX.
Anyway, I have always liked the Mobil 1, K&N, and Pure One's as well. I have heard Wix are good but haven't seen them around anywhere. I just wish the part numbers on some of these filters for the WRX wasn't such a mystery!

Personally I've used Purolator on my old VW. On the Subauru I've been using the OEM filter for now.

FYI...I called Mobil and inquired about an oil filter application for the WRX and they told me there isn't one. I know this thread posted a model number that would work but I wouldn't trust it.
I had forgot about AMS Oil but I use a variety of their products and am impressed. I ordered five of their filters (SDF-20) from their online store and may switch after I use these up if and when a Mobil 1 filter is available.

I just bought 5 oil filters from vivid racing and they say they are Subaru OEM.
Am i getting the Pure One or Not?
it costs 6.99 each.
The guy there said it comes with no gasket and he said for me to reuse mine,,and also they dont sell the gasket.
Do i need a new gasket??
Anyone have the OEM oil filter gasket part #??
I want to buy 5 of them to match my 5 oil filters.
Thanks

I use Bosch, the quality is very good. The gasket is rubber and the fitment was nice and tight. The ridges on the top sticks out more so my fingers can grip them better than the Subaru OEM.
Comes in Black, looks cool.
98% filtration, I guess that's good. $4.99

I guess I have no idea what a Brazilian filter looks like bu8t that is DEFINITELY 100% wrong for the U.S. All oil filters are the same (well, most anyway): the gasket is attached to the filter. The whole thing is self-contained in a little tin can with a big gasket (maybe 2" dia?) around the bottom.
Like one of these: (the gasket is blue on the one laying down)

I will wait to the filter to arrive cause maybe the gasket is inside the filter and the guy dont know this.
I bought the 5 drain washers too cause i like perfect clean changes.
in my CR125 2 stroke motocross bike,i had a Pack of 100 Drain washers,,Yes all OEM,,Costed me about 60USD..
They worth it,,i chaged the oil every day i was at the track,,used Motul,,,Ouch,,yes was expensive.
