Flakey fuel light.

Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced any trouble with the fuelgauge dummy light?

The thing started coming on when my gauge showed just under a 1/2 tank at start up, then would turn off after a few minutes. This would happen a few times until the gauge got down almost to empty, then it wouldn't come on. Just to see what would happen, I ran out of gas twice. No dummy light nearing the end of the line.

I wanted to make sure if it was the gauge or light that was faulty, and I learned the hard way it was the light. BUT not being sure if there was a prob with maybe the float or sending units, I took it in to the dealer.

My first clue that I may have problems with them was that after they had the car a whole day they asked if I dented the gas tank. So I said "Hm, I'm not sure. Is the gas tank dented?" That setteled that.

So they have the car for 2 days tearing apart everything near the tank blah blah. Guy says "We're stumped, never saw this before. We'll just order new sending units and see what happens."

Bring it back 2 weeks later and they call back 2 hours later to say it's fixed. I had my doubts, and sure enough, light still comes on. Not only that, but my hatchback cover is gone too. The mechanic says he remembers putting it back. But that's another saga.

So now they say, "It must be something in the board in the dash. We'll hafta order the part and you can bring it back for that." So now I'm debating whether or not I even want the guy tearing apart my dashboard for a dummy light that I never ever really relied on in all my driving years. And I don't have alot of confidence in a mechanic who lost a huge peice of my car in the first place. (I'm still having this fight. I'm going to hafta escalate to mngmnt over this one.)

I've also had the clutch replaced after only 15,000 miles. They honored the warranty, no prob, but they claim it was user error. I've driven manual all my life and never fried a clutch. Is there any documentation out there regarding abnormal clutch wear? I never had the clutch shudder prob. Or should I ask this on a separate post?

I kinda have this problem, or maybe had it once.
My gas light came on at 1/4 tank, I figured it was the guage not the light. I't pretty sure it took the whole 13ish gallons when I filled up that time.
It hasn't happened since, but I haven't run it passed 1/4 since either so I dunno.
