there are alot of good synthetic oils out there. I'm a Castrol distributer; I know it is a good synthetic oil, also Mobil 1 is very good. Redline and Royal Purple are also very good synthetic oils. As far as oil filters are concerned, stay away from Fram filters. I see vehicles come in my shop on a regular basis with fram filters and complaining and sudden drops in oil pressure. We pull off the filters, usually finding that the filter is actually starting to fall apart, piece by piece. Trust me on this, stay away from Fram.
Also, using synthetic oil after 1000 miles is not going to cause problems with the rings or any of that crap. It is actually recomended by many motor companies, oil companies and 1000's of mechanics all over the world.

I use modil1 because it has some of the best numbers for flash point, VI and Pour temp. AMSOIL is good also but Mobil 1 is easier to find. A high flash point and VI are important because as we all know turbos are hot and you don't want an oil that breaks down at high temps....my 0.02

should i use regular oil and not synthetic for it? i've always used Castrol oil in my cars, so would it be best to use 5w30 or go ahead with the 5w30 synthetic???

i used reg. oil for now, some say not to use syn. oil until 10,000 miles so all the seals and eveything else gets some wear on it .

I was wondering what was a good type of synthetic oil to use and what grade? How often do you change oil your car when you use synthetic oil?

i use amsoil...what grade depends on where u live and the conditions. if u live in alaska 10w 30 won't work for the winter. ya know. mobil 1 is good too. it's basically between those 2. this can turn into a long thread about mobil 1 vs amsoil

Yeah it can be debated forever probably. I am using Amsoil 10W30 right now (just changed it yesterday) since its warming up here in Virginia and we won't see much below freezing anymore, if at all.

don't be so sure up here in Mass it was 50 for a week and the forcast for tomorrow and tuesday is snow!

personally, I like mobil 1, even though I'm a castrol distributor. but, I wouldn't use anything over 10w-30. subaru built these engines run a light weight oil for a reason. if you start putting 10w-40 or 20w-50 in them it will put more of a stain on your engine(oil pump to be specific). I live in south east georgia. we see 100 degree weather on a regular basis and I still run 5w-30.

the only reason I'm offering my 2 cents is because I own a quick lube. oil is my life. its what pays the bills.
