rear differential oil chnge?

is it needed? if so, how often, how much oil, how does one do it, and anything else you guys can add will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Check the Periodic Maintenance sticky. IIRC the interval is 30k miles, <1qt GL5 75w90 and it's easier than changing the engine oil.

Just pull the bottom plug to drain and refill through the top one on the back of the diff until it comes up to the top hole. You can get a cheapo gear oil pump at any parts store that will make refilling a bite easier.

WARNING- don't drain the fluid until you have removed the top plug. I've known several people who have drained their diff only to discover that they can't get the fill plug loose.

because i drive my car "hard"
i drain mine approx every 7k miles
or... "every other oil change"

maybe i'm over cautious... very likely...
but i drive "harder" than the average joe
and that fluid is black when i flush it

thanks everybody. the car has to be jacked up for this? probably, wll the oil still drain if on a slope?

did mine at 32K (36k service)

i'm a spirited, 90% hwy driver. just want this thing to last, so i'm regimented on maintenance and service.
