Check Engine light just came one :x

I hope its nothing major.. i just passed the 50k mark so maybe its just a maintenance light of some sort. That came on and the the cruise control started blinking. I'm taking it Auto Zone right now to have them pull the code cause the Stealership wants $70 to hook it up.

$70 is borderline theft. Autozone may not do it for you, they may simply hand you the scanner in exchange for an ID and you DIY. In any case, pull the code, post the code number here, and list all your mods and your service history.

it's a steal... go to some smaller garage and do it. the dealership here on 355 was trying to charge me $80 just to hook it up. then to fix the problem. i just took it to my uncle's shop and he told me it was just a misfire.

Buy the OBD2 reader yourself if you're going to spend that much money.

My car did the same thing the other morning cruise light and all. It was because the gap on my new plugs was causing misfires on 3 of the 4. Thats because Vividracing sucks, but thats another rant for another time.

Ok.. so as far as mods go i'm not sure at all. I got it with whats installed. All i'm aware of is that it has a bigger turbo (IHI Brand) and a huge mother****in exhaust all the way through with cat.

I have notice no lack in power, smell, or any noises that have changed

I just got back from Auto Zone and they told me it was p0420

    The paper says:

The PCM has determined that the catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions. (Bank1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

    Definition:
    Catalyst efficiency low-bank 1
    Explanation
The oxygen sensors monitor the catalytic converters ability to store oxygen.
    Probably Causes
    1. Catalytic Converter defective (Failure possibly due to #2, 3, or 4)
    2. Engine Misfire or running condition
    3. Large Vacuum leak.
    4. Engine Oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings.

P0420 is a catalyst inefficiency code. Did you just buy this car? How long have you driven it? The most popular way to get a P0420 is to remove a catalytic converter. Is your car missing a cat?

ok well i can tell you right now that the downpipe isnt stock..could cause such a code...and the up pipe isnt stock which is more then likely the cause...if not both....get yourself some engine management..like a AEM AP or cobb..that will kill the code and get you some good hp gains
