    NEED HELP! Front o2 sensor stuck lean

    I got a front o2 sensor CEL a couple weeks ago and was told by sub to have a new one installed. Instead I bought a slightly used one (10k or so) and had my mechanic friend install it for me. The CEL came back. After testing the sensor, my friend says that it is stuck in a constantly lean state, and that this is usually not due to a bad o2 sensor. Did i buy a bunk sensor? is there a bigger reason for the sensor to be stuck lean?

    My car has really poor performance and starts to choke around 3-4k, ie no power. Also, if I keep the pedal down while its choking aruon 3-4k the CEL will flash.

    Any suggestions before I give up and have subaru look at it? I do have a competent mechanic, but he does have a scanner for live data, and says he can't properly diagnose further,

    well i dont know what year your car is..but i do know that there is a reprograming that needs to be done if certain models/years throw a code for the 02 ..you have to replace the sensor and then reprogram the ecu..it can only be done at the dealer with the sds system..

    i have an 2002. If it needs to be reprogrammed then i willl take it to subaru. I already had the 02 sensor replaced so hopefully it won't be much to finish the job. If only I can convince the service manager to MAKE SURE he doesn't replace the 02 sensor again..

    Oh, and my mechanic reset the ecu to turn off the light after installing the sensor. Is this different than reprogramming? (im assuming so)

    yes its not the same..i wish i could give you the bulletin number but im currently taking the summer off from work to travel...i wont have access to "confidential" subaru information until sept..but just go to the dealer let them know a tech said he's pretty sure theres a re-flash for your car..for air/fuel they should know what your talking about..prob charge you a hour to do the re flash since your out of warrenty and its not a recall its just a tech service bulletin
