    Blue smoke?

I started my car (2007 STi) up yesterday and noticed a cloud of blue smoke behind me. Is this something I should be worried about? The car has about 600 miles on it. I checked the oil level, it seems to be fine.

well conventionally, blue smoke means oil or coolant burning....but with a virtually new car? i dont know. is it still doing it? if so, back to the dealer you go.

That's not a good sign. If the car sat for a long period of time I could understand it.

I would keep an eye on it. If it happens again, take it to the dealer.

Normally blue smoke at startup can be a leaking valve seal, or a leaky turbo seal.

Bad news. After sitting all night, I started her up Sunday morning and noticed a huge cloud of blue smoke once again. It also did it this morning when I left for work.

Yeah, you need a trip to the dealer. With 600 miles, I'd ask them for another car. Well, if it's the turbo leaking then I might let them work on it. If they start talking about pulling the motor apart, I'd ***** and moan until they put you in a new one.

+1. A friend of mine had a prelude that was burning oil and blowing smoke. Honda tore the motor down and put in "experimental oil control rings." It got WAY worse after that.

Blue smoke indicates an oil problem. For some reason, oil is either getting into your combustion chambers or the exhaust side of the turbo. Either way, it's bad. It could indicate bad valve seals, bent valves, bad piston rings, a bad head gasket, cracked head, bad oil seal in the turbo, etc.

With only 600 miles, I'd demand at the least a new motor unless they can definitively prove it's the turbo. There is no excuse for that.

Thanks for the responses, guys. The car had about 600 miles on it when the problem initiated; it didnt do it again until this past Sunday. She has about 2200 on the ticker now. Looks like I will have to make an appointment this week.
