AmsOil Ea full synthetic filter, 15 microns at 98.7% efficient. Compared to a paper filter that would be 39.3% efficient.

I use the factory filter with a new crush washer/drain plug on each change. This prevents subaru from putting the blam on the oil filter if something goes wrong. If you buy them in bulk (around 6-10 of each) and are really nice to the dealership you can usually get a small discount.

Does the Amsoil filter result in lower wear numbers than the works filter if the two are used roughly the same number of miles and with the same motor oil?

The works filters were made by Purolator and also others; the current filter is apparently Japanese. In any case, 302@12psi makes an excellent point IMO:
