Hey all, I'm a newbie here. I just got a 1996 Impreza 2.2 litre (the wagon). It's pretty sweet, not super rapid or anything but pretty fun to drive, and the AWD works great in the snow. I am a dual citizen between the US and Wales, I spend holidays and summers at home in Wales where I was born, and I go to school in the fall and spring at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (where I am currently located).

My UK ride is a 2005 Volvo V70R (6 speed manual) I co-own with my sister, and my US ride is now my Impreza (automatic tranny)

Now that the intro is out of the way, A couple quick questions:

Firstly, my Impreza seems to have an idle issue - sometimes it idles just fine at around 600 rpm, but about 50% of the time it drops to 200-300 rpm. It never stalls, but the shuddering from the low RPM is annoying.
I have done the following, with no improvement:
-plugs/wires
-run fuel injector cleaner through the petrol
-new air filter
What should I look at next?

Secondly, I don't have a service manual for the car (yet) so I'm unsure about this, but does the 2.2 have a timing chain or belt? And if it has a belt, what's the recommended replacement mileage? The car has 112,000 on it now.

Cheers all, and thanks in advance
