Longevity of the original GC8 2.5RS engine?

Hey guys,

as most of you know I am selling my wrx, but I'm trying to get a GC8 RS to replace it since it will be significantly cheaper, as well as cheaper to insure. This is gonna be my daily driver car, and as such is going to see A LOT of miles put onto it. If i were to buy one that say.. had 145k already on it, How long do you think it would run on regular maintenance? I'd pay more for one with less miles, but $6k is pretty cheap

anyone know if these will run well past 200k miles?

The 2.5's in the older RS's appear to have A TON of head gasket issues once you hit anywhere near 100k. If the head gasket has been replaced and all the maintance is done then you should be okay for 200k.

But when you are talking 10 year old cars it's a rather lage gamble as to how long they will last. I have a 95 escort with 200k miles on it keeps chugging away, but I dont know for how much longer.

To be honest with you it would probaly be more reliable to get either a newer 2.5rs (2002+) or look around at civics, camry, and cars of that sort.

i would like a bug-eye, but i dont have a limitless budget, I need to stay under $11k for sure.

I picked up my 2001 RS with ~85k miles on it in very good condition. When I had the dealer check it out before I bought it, the things he paid most attention to were the head gaskets and the wheel bearings. Both looked good on my vehicle, but that should give you an idea.

As for reliability, subaru's generally last if you take care of them. There's no reason you couldn't get 200k miles out of the car as long as you maintain it...

For the $11k you're looking to pay you should be able to find one with ~100k miles or less, depending on the year.
