    Strong Gas smell in cabin???

    Hi Guys,

Well, I did a bit of searching but did not find any prior threads on exactly my problem.

I have a 2004, and everytime it is sitting for a few hours, when I return to the car, it reeks of gas. No mods; bone stock. It hasn't been cold- maybe into the 50s at night, 60s, 70s during the day. While driving, the smell goes away (windows are open) so I dont think its related to driving. Perhaps a small leak somewhere? Any suggestions on where to look? The car is out of warentee by now, and the dealer has already quoted me $200 to diagnose the problem.

    Thanks!

Jazzman, my only guess would be check the undercarriage.
DO NOT shell out 200 bucks so the stealership can take you for a whirl.
The ONLY thing I can think of is a hole in your gas line or a bad gasket.
Have you noticed any gas spots on your driveway/parking space?
Check all of the bolts on the exhaust (starting with the downpipe--you'll need to take off the heat shield)
btw, I hope you don't smoke
    lol

    keep us updated, ok!?
    LET'S GO COLTS!!!

I know the 02-03 years had issues with a hose that would leak during colder days, but I don't recall the 04+ models having the same issue because Subaru fixed the problem.

It seems to sometimes take time for this to develop. I've got an 02 I bought just under a year ago. It was really cold here in MA yesterday but no where near 14 degrees. This is the first time I've encountered this issue before. I'd have to assume that if the previous owner ran into this situation he would have had it fixed.

There is a TSB on the problem, issued by Subaru.

I'll let you know how I make out. I'm calling my mechanic on Monday.

    later,
