Do I need new tires? w/ pics

ok so these tires ive had about 2 years and have about 25,000-30,000 miles on them (75% highway). These are the original kind of tires (not the original ones, just forgot the model name and number) that came with my 02 wrx. The winters coming and I'm trying to figure out if i need new tires. Can anyone tell by these pics?

Put a penny in the tread... if you can see the top of of Lincoln's head, you need new tires.

    Word.

I'd definitely be thinking about new rubber. I wouldn't trust tread like that in a heavy FL thunderstorm, much less the snow. It looks like your outside edges are worn out and there doesn't seem to be much left in the middle. The wear indicators are making themselves apparent. I just replaced some RE-92's that weren't quite as worn as those...I couldn't be happier with my decision.

When the wear indicators are showing like this, your tires are BALD! Replace immediately.

The CT DMV uses this trick as for all safety inspections.
