    buying a used 2003 WRX

    Hello all,

I'm looking into buying a used 2003 WRX.
I need advice on the things i should look for, areas of trouble, or any advice.
one car i saw has an exhaust and a turbo timer with 51k miles on it what are the things that are know to go out around this mileage. It's a US spec car.

i am reading about the 1st and Reverse gear synchro/other problems, are they fixed in the 2003 model or are they still there? coz i'm not really into buying a car that is known to have a defect in the trany. are there any other known problems similar to this one? (like the deceleration noise in 3rd/4th gear)

    Thank you all

I just bought a used 2002 WRX with 88k miles, auto tranny. No problems to report so far.
Things to check are: smoke at startup, smoke while driving under load, odd noises from the engine compartment ( turbo shaft whine ), fluid conditions, and service records.
Post up your location and some pics if possible. I assume it has a 5sp manual. I checked with this site and NASIOC in the area I bought the car from. Although I did not get any "I know this car" replies the mods indicate someone who liked increased performance.
Other things like emission tests ( if a visual is required ) could be a problem if it has catless pipes.
These cars are quite hearty from my research and 3 weeks of experience. Yours sounds like a low mileage example too.

Look out for prevoius mods and and abuse. The tranny isnt glass but if the previous owner beat on it it will more then likely break. If it's modded dont bother buying it.

Also what price are they asking?

i am not in the US but i'm looking at a US spec car, that's why i'm asking on the US forums.
i've been asking about the car and it seems clean, with an older driver. will post pics if i buy it.

    What's the problem with 'Fadi'?

    Thank you all

If you live in an area where you have JDM offerings, you'd be stupid to buy a USDM anything.

I don't mean to insult your name or anything, but there used to be a guy on here who was named 'Fadi' (his screen name is WRXout) who we all trusted at first, but then he turned into a scammer and scammed a bunch of members out of hundreds of dollars! Was not a good guy.

But maybe you can make the name mean something more positive!

we don't get JDM spec cars here. the used cars are mostly from the US so the car that I found is a US spec one.
