    Tranny question

So i bought the car w/ 48k on it, it's an '04 WRX and when i put it into 3rd (and i know you're not supposed to do this) I put a little pressure on the shifter and i can feel the shifter vibrating like there's 2 gears rubbing together or something. I was curious if anyone else has had a similar problem. I know that the syncro's are weak on these things but i don't think it has anything to do w/ that when it's already in gear. If anyone can shed some light i'd me mucho appreciative.

Btw, i did call the dealership and i'm gonna go there tomorrow after work and take a tech dude for a drive in it to show them. I jsut hope that they don't say, "sorry, your fault, not under warranty" when it's been like that since i bought it.

Wingless alas. Too bad it took a 50 ton truck to make it happen.

If you haven't driven a Subaru before this may seem weird. Coming from a honda this I can tell you that is pretty normal. For some reason IMO the subaru stick vibrates a lot more than other manuals I've drive. Most likely nothing but not a bad idea to get it checked out. WHile you're at the dealer you could always have them put synthetic in your tranny as well

It's not just the gears, it's only 3rd that is really bad. It literally feels as though there's 2 gears down there and they're skipping teeth. I checked it again after i made the appointment w/ the dealership and it's deffinitely not like the subtle vibration of the other gears.

Oh, and i already put synthetic in my tranny and rear diff. shift_tastic (don't mean to go all Nissan on ya)

Went to the dealership and had them drive it. They said it is for sure not normal and that i should get it in to have it looked at asap. I'm gonna ask for an STi loaner... or a Legacy GT.

well if it is teeth missing you're looking at a new tranny or rebuild. Lets hope its not and perhaps it's something else. Keep us posted.

I don't care what they do to it. I've had the car for 2k miles and it's a certified pre owned... i have a warranty and it will be upheld cuz none of this is on me. I'll even get a loaner on warranty.

Edit: I hope it is teeth missing on the gears. then i can start brand spankin new and not have a worry about who broke the tranny.
